Assateague in April

If Friday and Saturday weren’t good enough, we made the weekend even better yesterday.  We headed to Assateague Island for our monthly check-in.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous!

The Assateague ponies are so awesome.  There was one as we came on to the island, and two racing down the beach.  There was also a pelican, which always reminds me of Finding Nemo. I also always think it is cool that Ocean City, MD looks so close but in reality is pretty far away haha.

We got about a two mile walk in before heading home.  It was a great addition to our monthly trip to the shore Smile

If you want to see our previous trips, head to these posts:

Our December Engagement

Surfers in February

Rex on the beach in March

Keep coming back every month and you’ll see more for sure! Smile I just can’t wait until I can get in a swim while we are there.  The water was only about 50 degrees, and I am definitely not okay with that! haha.

Alright, off to the pool and then off to work! Time to get back into the swing of things!

How was your weekend?

A Day to Remember!

Here you go! The moment you’ve all been waiting for since the surprise post yesterday! haha

If you’ve been following my blog since last year, you may have read this post about our story and how we met.  It was the fall of 2007 – 5 years ago! Travis and I have practically grown together into the people we are now.  From 18 to 23 – important years to figure out what you want and who you are.  And now we are stuck with each other forever! haha

Here’s what went down:

I drove down to Trav’s apartment on Maryland’s Eastern Shore on Wednesday night because I had to attend a substitute interview day on Thursday.  Subbing is my backup job if everything else falls through.  On Friday, he told me we had a date night to go into Ocean City, Maryland to see their Christmas lights display.  During the day on Friday, he text me from work and told me that he wanted to leave around 3 to stop at Assateague.  First, let me just say that he is obsessed with birds so his reasoning was that some birds migrated to the island after the hurricane and he wanted to go check them out.  This is totally believable, and I will never say no to go to my favorite beach in the world.  I’ve gone every year since before I can remember.

We headed to the beach, and I started snapping pictures of the empty island.

Travis had his fancy bird watching binoculars and camera, so I figured he was getting that situated to look for birds.  Turns out there were no birds, and when I turned around from picture  taking he was down on one knee.  I don’t think I moved or said anything for a solid 5 minutes before I realized that he’d asked me to marry him.  Of course I said yes!

And that’s when the excitement began!  We started calling everyone: parents, grandparents, etc.  We didn’t want to make it official on Facebook until we talked to the important family members, and it took forever to get ahold of my grandma! But we eventually did and of course everyone was super excited!

We went to the Greene Turtle for dinner.  Turns out not too many things are open in OC over winter.  I mean, we were on the beach on December 7.  Crazy!  I got a chicken caesar wrap.

We then went to the Christmas lights which were really cool.  You rode on a tram that is normally on the boardwalk over the summer.  It took us through their display.

Afterward we went for ice cream at Dumser’s, which is a vacation tradition for my family.  I must have been so overwhelmed that I didn’t finish my dinner OR my ice cream! Something must have been wrong! haha

I was posing with the ring like it was my job apparently haha.

And from there, we went home and calmed down from all of the excitement! Nothing more has been figured out, but we are both really excited!

More posts to come for sure.  Smile

WIAW in Assateague!

I know I showed a  ton of Assateague pictures on Sunday, but I have plenty more today! I purposefully didn’t include my food pictures from vacation so that I could add them today!   There are lots of ears of corn on the cob missing, as well as quite a few ice cream cones Smile.

On the way down, Trav and I stopped at Dunkin Donuts.  It was perfect Smile

The mornings that I didn’t have cereal, I stuck to Greek yogurt and some granola.

One evening, we met up with my roommate from last year, Alyssa, and Joe.  We went to Fish Tales for drinks and dinner.  I didn’t take a picture of dinner, but I got the Veggie Flatilla: Assorted blends of baby lettuce, cucumbers, and carrots tossed in a light pepper parmesan dressing and rolled into a flatilla with melted Irish white cheddar and a bit of marinara sauce! It was delicious!

They had the coolest swings that we sat in while waiting for our table!

Because we camped on Loop E in the campground, we also tried Loopy vodka.  It tasted exactly like Froot Loops.  It was nuts! haha

When I went to lunch with Hollie, I got a BBQ sandwich, fries, and apple sauce!

IMG_0609

Lots of salads!

IMG_0498

Couldn’t make the trip without Thrasher’s fries! Totally bad but necessary!

IMG_0620

Mountain pies at all times of the day! Pizza ones are my favorite!

We also had cupcake decorating on one of the rainy days! They were amazing Smile

Lastly, how could I forget the ice cream on the beach! My dad and some of the other guys go and get us ice cream and bring it to us in coolers on the beach Smile It’s perfection!
