Curry-Cajun Spiced Chicken Recipe & Hawk and Dove Review

While we were in D.C. on Sunday, we went to the restaurant that my uncle took me to all of the time when I worked at the Library of Congress.  Because I worked on Capitol Hill, we usually stuck to the restaurants in that area.  One of the restaurants we most often went to is the Hawk n Dove.  It has since closed down and reopened since I worked there, but I still found it mighty delicious.

On Sundays at the Hawk n Dove, they have Bluegrass Brunch in which live music is played and special items are on the menu.  One of those special items is their amazing sticky buns.  Seriously, they had awesome walnuts and an amazing raspberry sauce. Oh my gosh.

We each also got a pork sandwich and fries.  The pork was tangy and totally amazing.  I want more.  I ate EVERY bite. I am sure the food baby was evident in our engagement pics.

And some more eats as of late.  A daily yogurt breakfast with fruit and cereal.

An ugly plate of spaghetti squash, turkey meatballs, and corn.  I may have poured the sauce out too quickly.  Oh well, just put more squash in and all was well in the end.

Andddd now onto Trav’s new favorite recipe.  He loved this one! And it’s thanks to his grandma that I discovered it Smile.

Curry-Cajun Spiced Chicken

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 6 skinless, boneless chicken breasts

Preheat over to 350 degrees.  In a baking dish, combine honey, water, mustard, melted butter, Cajun seasoning, curry powder, lemon juice, and garlic.  Mix well.  Add chicken, turning to coat.  I cut my chicken into smaller pieces.  Bake uncovered for 30 minutes or until chicken is tender and no longer pink.

So, so yummy.  Thanks, Grandma Neiman! Smile

That’s all of the food that I have for you this week.  Do note: I think I have eaten my weight in cheddar Goldfish in the past few days.  Thank goodness for Sam’s club sized bags! Smile

Happy What I Ate Wednesday! Thanks, as always, to Jenn!

Any new recipes lately?

Have you ever eaten at the Hawk n Dove?

Ferret Dogs, Sneakers with a Dress, and Giveaway Winners

You might have thought my post title is a little nuts, but it’s exactly what this post includes.

First: Ferrets who are mistaken for dogs. PLEASE tell me you heard about this in the news.  It’s about as good as news gets.

Source

Some guy bought not one, but TWO, ferrets and thought they were dogs.  The ferrets had been given steroids from birth and their hair was poofed out to resemble poodles.  Guys, I can’t make this up. It wasn’t until he took them to the vet that he found of he had been duped.

Next: Sneakers with a dress.   I wouldn’t be my classy self without wearing sneakers around DC in my dress for our engagement pictures! I knew that they are the only things that wouldn’t wreck my feet and legs, so I threw other shoes in my bag and just went with it.  I am a style expert, of course.  Here I am outside the building I worked at a few summers back, the Madison building of the Library of Congress!

Another crazy thing added in for good measure: Have you ever heard of Wim Hof? He is from the Netherlands, and he is known as the Ice Man! He has spent almost two hours fully emerged in ice, which is world record material! The cool thing: he uses a mind over matter technique to get it done. I guess this just goes to show that your mind is a powerful thing!

Here’s a pretty incredible video with a bit about his story.  If you ever doubt yourself, watch this! At the end, he holds himself up, yoga style, on the edge of a cliff with one hand.  I mean, wow.

And the moment you’re waiting for, I’m sure! The winners of my NuNaturals giveaway! Congrats Jessie, Alysia, Renata, and Lauren!!! Please send your name and address to lifeafterswimming AT gmail DOT com.  Thank you!

That’s all the nonsense I have for you today! Serious nonsense.

Have you found anything nuts lately? I mean, once I found a story about a goat going to court, but I think this dog/ferret thing takes the cake.

Birthday Celebrations

As I mentioned, this weekend was spent in the DC metro area with my family and some of Travis’ family celebrating my birthday, Trav’s birthday, my sister’s birthday, and Trav’s cousin’s soon-to-be birthday! Here’s your recap! P.S. – you’re going to have to wait until Wednesday for a full food recap.  Too much goodness that it calls for its own post!

We arrived Friday night, watched some wedding shows on TLC, spent time with family, and ate pizza.  On Saturday morning, a group of 13 awesome family members and friends headed to Farmers Fishers Bakers.  We spent about two hours enjoying their phenomenal brunch buffet. Funny side-note: they charged Trav’s 19-year-old cousin, Kirstin, as a child that is 12 and under! haha.

Here’s the birthday boy enjoying his bananas foster french toast!

While in Georgetown, cupcakes were a necessity! Smile

Later that evening, we headed into Dupont to celebrate some more! My sister had rented out a section of One Lounge, and we had a few drinks, danced, and loved life.

Yesterday was low key.  We ate a lot of cookies and leftover pizza, and then Travis and I headed back to Salisbury.  A run was had, and the Grammys were enjoyed! It was a great weekend.

How was your weekend?? What did you do?!

Today is the LAST DAY to enter my “Do Good” giveaway!!! You won’t be sorry!
