Wedding Planner

Hey everyone! I have been all about wedding planning lately, even though I have over a year until the big day!

Travis and I have decided not to hire a professional wedding planner to help us, but we have gathered some pretty cool resources to keep us in check.

When my parents reserved our limousine, the owners of the company gave them a wedding planning book.    Actually, they ended up with TWO wedding planning books.  The books are amazing, and honestly have everything in them.

There are checklists, budgeters, color options, seating arrangements, and so much more.

This will definitely come in more handy are we start picking things out.  We already have most of our venues, just gotta start making smaller decisions.

We also have checklists printed out online and ones I made.  I love a good checklist!

And lastly, Travis got me this wedding book for Christmas!  Though I haven’t read page for page, there is a lot of good information.

My sister is also good at weddings since she has been a bridesmaid a lot recently (she was this past weekend!), so she has had a lot of good ideas!

So far, neither of us are regretting our decision to stick to planning on our own.  Because we will both have ample time after the school year ends, we should be able to get a large majority of planning done.

To see what we have already completed, check out our Wedding Page!

A Look into August

Today, I woke up on the right side of the bed.

Even though I got a good attack from Geno this morning, I was still in a good mood all day, and I was even mildly productive!

My battle wounds from Mr. Kitten

I finished the book I was reading, went to the store, put together my tutoring lesson for this week, watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1, cleaned my room, went for an 11.8 mile bike ride, and made some chocolate chip boatmeal for my breakfasts this week. Wahoo! Go me!

Today got me thinking about the rest of the month.  I have a lot to look forward to this month, and I thought I would let you all in on what I have planned!

First up: Now that I have finally read all of the Harry Potter books and watched the first seven movies, this weekend I am going to see the final movie in IMAX! :)

Also this weekend, I am going to see the man that I love.  Andrew McMahon and Jack’s Mannequin are playing in Baltimore on August 7th, and I am going! If you don’t know who he is, check out my love for him here.

I just love him...

Following the concert, I am heading back to my sister’s house for a few days.  I interned at the Library of Congress last summer, and I am going to go back to visit my boss and coworkers.  While I am there, I feel another trip to Trader Joe’s is necessary! From DC, my sister and I are heading to my parent’s house for my next adventure!

My family and I as well as Travis are heading to Canada for a few days.  I haven’t been there in a few years, and Travis has never been there at all.  We are spending the weekend around Niagara Falls, and I cannot wait!

American side of the falls with my college swim team a few years back!

The month doesn’t end there, though! After Canada, I will be back in Shippensburg for a few days before heading back to my parent’s house.  First, I am getting my hair chopped for Locks of Love (assuming it is finally long enough).  The next day, my cousin and his fiance are getting married! :) Yay! I love weddings and I am so excited for them!

I think that may be all I have planned. Working a few days here and there and classes starting up should also be included, though neither of them are nearly as fun as the rest of my month.  Throughout the month, I will still be training for my bike ride which is coming up in September! :)

Now, I want to hear what you have in store for your month of August.

Do you have any things you are packing into the last month of summer?

What do you have planned for this month?

A parting picture:

I pledge allegiance, to the flag...

What’s the Plan?

I am a planner. Those who know my family would say I get this quality from dear old popsicle (my dad). I need to have a plan for everything.  For instance, I need to know exactly what I will be doing the next day.  Every night, I pick out an outfit for the next day, pack my breakfast and lunch, and decided what I will be having for dinner. I make sure I have an agenda. I constantly make “To-Do” lists and update my planner like it is my job.

I wouldn’t say I am crazy organized, but I really like routine and structure in my life.  For example, I will let my room turn into a total pig-sty, but there’s no way I will miss a meeting! I do organize my email into categories…one of my crazy quirks.  I break them down into personal, school, miscellaneous, etc. I can’t stand having emails back up in my inbox!

So what happens when a plan falls through? What if I planned the night before that the next day I would go for a bike ride instead of going to the gym, and it ends up raining all day? What if I schedule to meet up with someone, and they back out at the last minute?

My initial reaction: frustration. I get worked up easily, and until I take a step back, it is hard for me to look past the failed plan. As a grad student in special education, I know that need for routine is a common characteristic of individuals with autism.  Breaking the routine can result in temper tantrums and they can even become violent. Recognizing that the routine is not a determinant of daily success is something that helps those with autism.  Sometimes, I feel as though what I learn in my classes can help me with my own life.  Just because something didn’t go according to plan, I do not have to become broken down over it.

How do I look past these routines, though? I know that having a general daily plan is something I need to do in order to feel prepared to enter into the coming day.  But what can I do to help myself look past the need for exact structure throughout my life? Not everything can go exactly according to plan. Recognizing this, I feel, is a good step toward trying hard to stay positive through changes to the routine.

Are you a big planner? Do you need structure in your daily routine?

What do you do when something in your life doesn’t go according to plan?

My workout for today:

Another interval workout…seems to be the theme of the week for me! :)

    • 2 minute run
    • 1 minute walk

    • 4 minute jog
    • 4 minute run
    • 1 minute walk
    • 5 minute jog
    • 5 minute run
    • 2 minute walk
  • Set 2: (14 minutes total)
    • 1 minute jog
