The Craziness of the Weekend

Since the last time I’ve check in with you all, I’ve done approximately 3 things. 1. Hung out with some friends.  2. Attending a PA blogger meet up at the PA Farm Show thanks to PennAg. 3. Moved to Maryland.

I guess I could add number 4: Sneezed my head off because I am allergic to my own cat. But that’s a different story.

Let me back up, though.  I spend a good bit of time with my friends last week.  I went to get coffee with my friend, Chelsea from home.  And then I had a sleepover with my best friend Melissa and got to see my friend Emma when Melissa and I met her for lunch at Mad Mex.  Here’s me and Melissa…

And then Friday was the PennAg blogger meet up – but that totally deserves its own post tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Then came the moving process. Travis and I spend the weekend at his parents’ house, which was nice because I had not seen them since before the holidays!  Travis and I got to Shippensburg to pick up the last of my belongings early Saturday morning, but first went to eat with my Shippensburg family. Got a yummy omelet Smile  And then we stuffed the car to the absolute brim.

Thankfully it all fits in the apartment!

While I was in Shippensburg, I also met up for lunch with my friend Chelsea from school!

Now it’s back to unpacking and organizing.  Hopefully getting everything done today!! And then hopefully getting back into the workout groove.  It’s been about a week since my last workout.  I don’t know what happened to me.  I’ve been spending time with family and friends, and I think that is more important to me because I am now about 6 hours from my family.

Stay tuned for more on the Farm Show tomorrow! Smile

Fill me in on your weekend! I haven’t even checked blogs for a really long time!

Country to City

This week is probably one of the biggest ones of my life.  I’m currently in limbo at my parents’ house: I leave today to head to visit my future family and then tomorrow, I am heading to Shippensburg for the last time in the foreseeable future before heading to my new home in Salisbury.

For those of you unaware, Shippensburg is Farmland, PA.  Crazily enough, it’s been my home for the past 5 years.  I rarely spent time at my parents’ home between swimming and working, so Shippensburg has been more familiar to me recently.

Between running and biking, I think I’ve just about perfected every route to the point that I know the exact roads to take in order to equal whatever mileage I want. The rolling hills and fields make for a pretty (though sometimes smelly, thanks to the cows) workout every time.

Views from a summer ride on the rail trail

It’s hard for me to look ahead to what I will have in Salisbury.  Where the apartment is happens to be right off of the main highway.  Going from training in Ship to training in Salisbury is going to be strange.  I don’t know the paths.  I no longer have a rail trail to get some good off-road training.  My favorite route will be no longer.

Truthfully, I have no idea how to start half marathon training in about a week without these well-known paths.  One good thing is that the weather is a little warmer and rarely gets into freezing temperatures, which will be nicer for outside running.

Another strange thing is the lack of swimming I’ve had recently.  My team in Ship had become so comfortable, and getting up at 5:20 was becoming a habit.  There is a master’s team in Salisbury, but I don’t know how far the team would be from the different schools I could be subbing in…might not be the most convenient! I definitely need to find somewhere to swim in order to train for the half Ironman I have in the fall!

It’s just a hard place to be in.  Moving, learning my way around, and training in a new area are all things I need to figure out and quick!

Any suggestions on how to start training in a new (and highly trafficked) area?

And just a random picture from my time in Pittsburgh:

Shippensburg Loving

As I continue through my final few months of school and living at Ship, I’ve been taking advantage of the time I have to ride and run throughout the awesome town and surrounding farmland.  Yesterday, I went on a nice 18.4 mile ride throughout the countryside, and the sights of pumpkins and baby farm animals made me so happy Smile.

When I mean it’s countryside, just look at how the cross country team got their team pictures this year…

If that’s not country enough for ya, I don’t know what is!

Some big news for Shippensburg: one of our about 5 bars in the area was ranked #9 in the country for best bars for bros.

Oh, Shippensburg.  I will miss you.  But then again, I am so ready to move on!

I am so ready to join Travis and Geno in a place that rarely snows.  I am not ready for job applications and interviews, though! EEK! I think everyone should be granted 6 months to do nothing in their life.  I would consider taking it sometime soon, though I would need to save some money to travel and really enjoy it!

I know that I’ve been in Shippensburg for 5.5 years, but other than going to college, I’ve never moved.  My parents still live in the same house I grew up in, so the actual moving and not because of college is exciting to me! I can’t wait!

Have you moved a lot? If so, what’s your favorite place you’ve lived?
