Research Ramblings

I am glad to know that so many of you enjoyed the motivation from yesterday’s post.  Smile I really enjoy looking at things like that, and I was motivated for a pretty kick butt workout yesterday.  It definitely helped break up the monotony of my day, which consisted of 13 hours on campus.  I felt like an undergrad again!

Because my jobs can get pretty darn boring, I have come across some neat-o things through the interwebs.

First, one of the Newsies boys that I saw in New York is going to be on season 2 of Smash. This is amazing news. Jeremy Jordan is phenomenal. Look at this cute newsboy:

He will be joining the cast, but Dev’s, Ellis’, and Frank’s characters will be saying too-da-loo. I’m ok with Ellis leaving, but Dev and Frank? They are such good characters!!  I feel like the story line is going to change significantly without them.

Another amazing finding that I keep forgetting to mention to you all: Pick-up Lines for Runners.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • My love for you is like an ultra-marathon. It goes on and on.
  • Your voice is so beautiful, you make fartleks sound appealing.
  • Dang it! My coach told me not to get my heart rate over 160 today but then I saw you!

Ahhhh some people are so clever.  This sort of reminds me of some of the swimming pick-up lines my teammates and I used to joke about.  “I’ll show you my breast if you show me your fly” was always one of my favorites.

Lastly, I have been doing a little bit of research as to why BOTH of my hips just feel like they have so much pressure in them at all times.  I looked at it a bit, and it could be caused by the amount of added weight I have put on lately.  I think this could potentially boost my motivation to lose it.  If losing the extra baggage makes my hips feel better, I’m all for it.  We all know that 3 months of physical therapy and many of hours in the hydrotrack didn’t completely cure them! The story in this article sounds familiar…a women sidelined from exercising due to pain in her hips!

Uh oh… I hope fat cat’s hips are ok!!! Winking smile

I am also concerned that the added weight around my hips is making me lose my memory.  Sometimes, my research findings really intrigue me. This article states that obese women are more likely to experience memory problems, especially when the weight is located around the hips. This could be due to the type of fat located on the hips as compared to the waist. Interesting.  Very, very interesting.

Phew, I am just filled with information this morning!   Time to go to class, hopefully to keep the memory ball rolling.

Do you ever catch yourself researching really out-of-the-blue topics? Come across anything interesting lately?

What do you think about the changes to the Smash cast?

Music Update

As someone obsessed with music, I haven’t really told you about what I’ve been listening to on repeat as of late.  Actually, practically the whole ride home from school yesterday consisted of these songs and a few old-school jams on a continuous stream.

I love Florence + The Machine.

Two of my favorite voices.  I can’

Ummm….. Adam Levine is sexy.  That is all.  And Wiz – homeboy represent! TGOD!

I am obsessed with Smash and want the new season to start ASAP!

My song obsessions get pretty eclectic from time to time.  I like most any type of music.  Like some Carly Rae never gets old.  Especially when lip synced by college baseball players Winking smile.

Off to grocery shop and fill up the car before heading back to Ship!

What’s been on your playlist lately??

Back into the Swing of Things

Getting back into the swing of things after the weekend was rather tough for me today.  Work wore me out, and class did little to keep my eyes open.

I was sleepy from the moment I woke up, and I even caved into caffeine at work.  Soy light coffee frap it was!  It’s lovely having Starbucks on campus Smile

I had another boost in my day, too: a surprise visitor at work!

Travis came to visit me before he headed back home Sad smile! No fear…I will see him again on Friday!

After work, I forced myself to get a workout in.  I knew it would make me feel better in the end!

I started off with 20 minutes on the elliptical.  I am slowly allowed to add a few minutes to my light ellipticalling which is nice.  Though the resistance is low, I at least can do something! I followed that up by doing just about every arm and core exercise known to man. My arms still feel like jello.  My favorite thing to do while doing abs is to thrown in some push-ups after every 2 sets of abs.  It mixes it up and just adds some extra burn to my arms.

I also got this email in the mail:

Confirmation that my switch from full marathon to half marathon has been successful.  That definitely takes some of the stress off of my back.  At this point, it’s much more realistic that I can complete 13.1 miles than the full 26.2.  Still taking it a day at a time, but hopefully by May, 13.1 miles will be fully doable!

I also got a nice surprise in the mail from my little California boyfriend.  What a nice surprise!

Yep, you can call me Mickey.

At least the surprise from Lincoln was much better than the surprise from Geno….he knocked my roommates lamp over and broke it.  At least he took some money out of the bank as an apology.

He’s quite the crazy cat.  Especially now that the dogs are here, I think Geno needs more attention and will do anything in his power to get it.  Even if that means knocking everything off every surface in the house.

Well, phew.  Good thing I finished writing in time for SMASH! Smile Hoping for a GREAT night’s sleep tonight! Adios!

PS: Bought my own domain name finally! Looks like I am moving up in the blog world bahaha.
